POE2 boss prep checklist

A practical POE2 boss preparation checklist covering defenses, movement, damage windows, and attempt review.

Run the checklist Back to POE2 Lab

Short answer

A boss attempt should have a short prep loop: confirm defenses, know the dangerous mechanic, plan movement, define damage windows, and review why the previous attempt failed. Do not keep retrying with the same blind setup.

StepWhat to write downDecision
DefensesResistances, main pool, recovery, mobility.Fix obvious gaps before spending attempts.
MechanicThe one attack or phase that kills you most.Practice avoiding that first.
Damage windowWhen you can safely stand still or commit.Stop attacking during unsafe windows.
Gear swapOne small defensive or utility swap to test.Change one variable at a time.
ReviewDeath cause after each attempt.Do not guess after repeated failures.

Checklist

  • Record what killed the previous attempt.
  • Add one defensive or utility change before the next attempt.
  • Identify safe damage windows instead of holding DPS constantly.
  • Keep movement available for known danger phases.
  • Stop after repeated deaths and review the build, not just execution.

Example

If the boss only kills you during one phase, changing your main damage skill may not help. A mobility, recovery, or resistance adjustment may produce the fastest improvement.

Common mistakes

  • Retrying immediately without identifying the death cause.
  • Over-focusing on damage while ignoring movement timing.
  • Changing five gear pieces at once and losing track of what helped.
  • Assuming every boss problem is a build problem.
