Short answer
Treat every build guide as version-sensitive until it proves otherwise. A good POE2 guide names the patch context, explains leveling separately from endgame, lists required items, and gives budget fallbacks when trade prices move.
| Check | Good signal | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Patch context | Names the current update or recent balance period. | No date, no patch, or comments say it stopped working. |
| Leveling path | Separates campaign skills from endgame setup. | Only shows final gear and assumes you already have it. |
| Defenses | Explains life, energy shield, resistances, recovery, and mobility. | Only talks about damage numbers. |
| Required items | Marks uniques, weapon type, gems, and substitutions. | One expensive item quietly carries the whole build. |
| Boss plan | Shows where damage windows and movement matter. | Only clears easy packs in a highlight clip. |
